Parents, ask your children about their Explorer Passports
Explorer Passports will be delivered to schools on Friday, May 18. The Passports give children free admission to parks and attractions in Prince William County. Start off this Saturday at the HCHY EXPO at Pfitzner Stadium, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. View map of activities and schedule of events.

Reminder:  If Benton skips a day of school for any reason (like a snow day, for example), the color of the next school day will pick up where the previous schedule left off.  Benton will do its utmost to keep the above weekly color schedule up to date in these types of situations. 

E-reader Use Suspended During SOL Testing

 

E-readers devices are suspended during the SOL Testing at Benton Middle School as the wifi system that supports many of these devices will be down across the county to ensure testing security.  This period of suspension will begin Monday, 5/14/12 and run through Friday, 6/8/12.  E-reader use in the Language Arts classroom ONLY will resume on Monday, 6/11/12.  As a reminder, students who use cell phones must follow school rules which are to turn off the cell phone and place it in the student's locker.  Thank you for your cooperation during these SOL Testing dates.


Dough Raising Night for Benton Middle School!

May 16th, Wednesday Night is Pizza Night at Domino’s located in the Woodbine Shopping Center at the intersection of 234 and Hoadly Road. Forms are available HERE. Domino’s will keep track of all our sales and donate 20% of our net order to our school!


Going to Hylton Next Year and Are Interested in Playing Football?

The Hylton football program is having an informational meeting for rising 9th Graders on Thursday, May 31st at 7:00 p.m. in Hylton's auditorium.


Rising 6th Graders Receive Cougar Welcome!

On May 3rd and May 4th, Benton Middle School welcomed students from all our feeder elementary schools.  Students were treated to performances by our cheerleaders, dance team, orchestra, chorus, and band.  They also received valuable information about the transition to middle school, expectations for PE and athletics, and took a tour of the school before leaving.  Please click here to see the informational slide show presented to the students.  We really enjoyed seeing all our rising 6th Graders, and looking forward to having them with us in September!
 

Important End of Year Processing Concerning Parent Accounts

 

PARENTS/Guardians - If you have not created your own account on Parent Portal, or you need to edit your contact information, now is the time.

FRIDAY, 1 JUNE - Parent Portal Registrations and Online Contact Editing will be turned off and no further registration or edits will be accepted until after the new school year transition.   This means that NO NEW PARENT ACCOUNTS WILL BE CREATED UNTIL FALL.

MONDAY, 18 JUNE - All updates to Parent Portal will stop and no further data updates will be sent to SchoolFusion until Fall.  Any pending parent registrations that have not been processed will be deleted and those parents will need to reapply next year.  Parents with existing/active accounts will be able to access their accounts in the fall with no need to reapply.

Parent Portal WILL NOT be updated with Summer School Information and no Summer School Information will be sent to SchooolFusion.

A Bigger, Brighter Benton is on the Way!

Benton has begun its major renovation!  The 2012 school year should unveil phase one of Benton's two phase renovation.  While the fall of 2013 is slated to open with all construction complete and new classrooms ready for use.  Click HERE for a letter from Principal Smith outlining all the details.


Benton Middle School Announces its May and June 2012 SOL Testing Dates

 

The Benton Middle School May/June 2012 calendar is offered for parents and guardians to stay informed of the upcoming SOL dates (click HERE to download calendar).  Parents and guardians are encouraged to make sure their students are present on the day of the student’s testing.  If appointments need to be scheduled during this testing period, please refer to this calendar to best schedule around a student’s actual testing date(s).  Parent and guardian cooperation is greatly appreciated.


SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer School will be held at Graham Park Middle School from July 9th - July 27, 2012 for Benton students.  Students who are eligible to receive free tuition for summer school will receive notification and a registration form in the mail prior to April 20th.  Students who are not eligible for free summer school may also attend. Click HERE for a flyer containing all fee and date information.  Completed registration forms with applicable fees need to be returned to the Benton Middle School Guidance Office for processing before the Friday, June 1, 2012 deadline.


Student Login Information for BOTH Fusion and Parent Portal

Students can access their classroom information to include homework and due dates by logging in the Benton's Fusion page.  Students can also access their grades by logging into Parent Portal.  Click HERE for Student Instructions for logging into both these valuable online tools.
Cougar Bank
The Cougar Bank will be open for business in the "Mixing Bowl" Tuesday mornings from 7:50am - 8:10am beginning September 27th.  Students can open a new account or make deposits into an existing account.  Managed by Cardinal Bank employees and Benton's Cougar Bank Club students, the Cougar Bank provides a great opportunity for all Benton students to save money and earn interest.
